Spotlight: Writing Podcast

Some story ideas simply aren’t worth developing.

Kristen Keiffer, Well-Storied Podcast, Testing the Strength of the Shiny New Idea

I’m a writing and art craft geek. I love thinking about the concepts that I can apply to my work. Often I read and listen and watch a lot so that stuff simmers in the background as I write or draw.

In this case, I ran across Kristen’s podcast. I love that her episodes are 30-minutes or less and that they are craft focused.

As I’m moving forward on stories in different stages, it is time for me to start generating ideas again. Right before my mentorship started, I looked at my body of work and evaluated how passionate and excited I was about all my works-in-progress (WIPs). When I couldn’t choose, I was forced to put everything aside and start with new ideas because they didn’t grab me.

So before you start on a new story, ask yourself two things: am I excited and is it worth it? Kristen’s podcast gives you a framework for judging the strength of your shiny idea, but only you know if you LOVE your idea!
